A Gift Caricature of Utley, Victorino and Lee

Phillies Fan Gift A Gift Caricature of Utley, Victorino and Lee

The Perfect Gift for a Hardcore Phillies Fan
Drawing caricatures at Philadelphia Phillies games is a great experience, but it wasn’t until this project that I was challenged to draw the actual players. This gift caricature commission for a girl who’s fanatical over the Phillies—especially Shane Victorino, Chase Utley and Cliff Lee—was the perfect opportunity to expand on my Phillies caricature arsenal and sketch the most recognizable of all Philadelphia baseball stars.

Caricatures at Caroline’s Birthday Party

bucks county party caricaturist Caricatures at Carolines Birthday Party

Caricatures are Great for Birthday Parties!
Last Friday, I drew caricatures at Caroline’s Bucks County birthday party. It was a very interesting night, with the girls throwing some very creative and interesting requests at me. I was challenged with bodies that I’ve never attempted before like the witch from WICKED, Wonder Woman, Minnie Mouse and my favorite—Nicoles head on Marilyn Monroe, recreating the famous scene in The Seven Year Itch.

A Bubble-blowing Caricature of Kailyn
At 2 months old, my daughter started expressing her playfulness by blowing formula bubbles. I thought this was hilarious and quickly set out to capture my new 2 month old muse on canvas in this extremely cute and playful time in her life.

Cover Assignment for Aviation Week

6819046681 9bd2389fcc b Cover Assignment for Aviation Week

The Assignment: Provide A Cover For Aviation Week
A reporter from Aviation Week visited NASTAR Center to write a story on NASTAR’s role in the future of Commercial Space Travel. He participated in the training program that involves being strapped in a human centrifuge and spun to 6G’s, accurately replicating the physiologial stresses of spaceflight.

As the reporter left NASTAR, he mentioned that they still haven’t decided on a cover. He then suggested that if my media department had any creative ideas, to submit them for consideration. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

Johnny Cash Caricature Painting

Johnny Cash Caricaturist Johnny Cash Caricature Painting

15″ x 30″ Acrylic on Canvas Caricature of Johnny Cash.
I frequently find myself becoming inspired at the most random times. Most recently, I decided that Johnny Cash would make a great caricature while watching “Johnny Cash: Live at Folsom Prison” with my sister one Saturday afternoon. I’ve been a huge Johnny Cash fan for years, but have never felt the urge to paint him. Not until I saw a really interesting still image during the Folsom Prison documentary. I noticed that Cash had huge ears and a pretty big forehead, embellished by the pompadour he used to sport in the early days. The bags under his eyes and his overbite were also prominent in this image. I hit rewind on the DVR, hit pause and captured this image with my iPhone. I started on the Johnny Cash Sketch immediately.

The Process and the Politics: Logo Redesign and Rebrand in a Corporate Environment

ETC Logo By Chris Snee The Process and the Politics: Logo Redesign and Rebrand in a Corporate Environment

Redesigning a Logo with Over 43 Years of Equity
Redesigning the ETC logo has been the most strenuous, yet rewarding job I’ve had so far in my career. I jumped into this project fully-prepared for a challenge, but remained confident that my experience and education would enable me to be successful. What I was not prepared for was the political minefield that is corporate culture, and the internal resistance of change that can accompany a corporate rebranding campaign 43 years in the making.

Conducting Focus Groups For Logo Design Feedback

Conducting focus groups plays an integral role in any corporate rebrand campaign or corporate logo redesign. The only problem—ETC has no traditional marketing department, and my experience in Graphic Design surely doesn’t include this type of endeavor. My only option was to become an expert myself, learn on the fly and trust on my gut.

A Focus on Good Logo Design

Since my post on redesigning the ETC logo focuses primarily on the process and politics of a corporate rebrand, I wanted to give some love to the actual art of logo design. The following demonstrates how I applied the principals found in the book Logo Design Love, by David Airey to the new ETC corporate logo.

Logo Design Checklist
With a logo concept approved by the CEO, it was time to refine the design and focus on the integrity of the logo itself. The following guidelines come from the book Logo Design Love, by David Airey. This book was my companion, my co-pilot, my guide through my first rebranding campaign. The information is easy to understand and I found these principals to be a great resource during the rebrand.

What is a Trade Name?

IBM logo What is a Trade Name?

IBM logo designed by The Great Paul Rand.

What is a Trade Name?
A trade name is the name a business uses to identify itself. A trade name can be different from the legal name the business has been registered as, for corporate status. Examples include Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and the ubiquitous International Business Machines—better known as IBM.
